Montreal, November 21, 2019 – perte de signal wishes to highlight commitment and dedication to the Centre’s actions. It is therefore with great pride that the Board of Directors has named Robin Dupuis as an honorary member.
Robin Dupuis has over 20 years of experience in the field of digital arts. A key player in a flourishing domain, he coordinated the CQAM report États Généraux des arts médiatiques in 2008 and worked to solidify the CQAM community in his role as president from 2010 to 2015.
Both as a professor at UQAM’s École des arts visuels et médiatiques, and through the “Projet Émergent” program at perte de signal, he has supported the professionalization of many emerging artists; among them Sofian Audry and Stephanie Castonguay, two prominent voices in the international digital arts world.
“Robin Dupuis is the lynchpin of a centre that urges its artists to break new ground, thereby continually revitalizing digital arts practices.”
Stephanie Castonguay, President of perte de signal
A founding member and the General and Artistic Director of perte de signal, Robin Dupuis has enabled the Centre to position itself alongside the major cultural institutions on the Quebec digital scene. The Centre is now a hub for many different networks both here and abroad.
Since 2002, special emphasis has been placed on a variety of audiences in order to decompartmentalize media practices. Furthermore, with the creation of the KidZlab festival for young audiences, perte de signal is leading a rich investigation into current practices in arts and digital culture.
Robin Dupuis founded the rustines_lab in 2009 and oversaw its installation, in 2015, in the Centre’s spaces at the Pôle de Gaspé in Montréal. Through this lab, perte de signal provides the tools, settings, and opportunities for artists—whether internationally recognized, emerging, or from culturally diverse backgrounds—to build and connect with audiences. Flexible management and open programming ensure that the Centre’s members have the motivation and means to turn their plans into reality.
In today’s digital environment, Robin Dupuis has helped shape an organizational model for the Centre that, although atypical, is underpinned by exemplary and efficient governance. perte de signal has long tailored the development of its policies and actions to the current needs of artists and audiences. It is an artist centre supported by passionate employees, an informed Board of Directors, and members who are always ready to envision new approaches in digital arts.
In addition, his curatorial project RE●TOUR can be seen at the Maison de la culture du Plateau-Mont-Royal from December 12, and as part of the Tournées du Conseil des arts de Montréal in Verdun and in Rivière-des-Prairies in 2020. The exhibition will feature the work of Cinzia C., Pavitra Wickramasinghe, Nelly-Eve Rajotte and Samuel St-Aubin.
